About AKA
DISABLED ACCESS

1. Information for people with a disability

We strongly advise wheelchair users or those with mobility restrictions or access queries to contact the Office Manager Gill Walmsley at gill@endclub.com in advance of your visit. We generally encourage those with restricted mobility to bring a buddy, to provide them with assistance around the venue. This buddy will not be charged the entrance fee – this can be organised in advance of your visit with Gill at gill@endclub.com.

2. Getting to and from the venue

• Parking

There is no parking on site, as this is a Central London venue. Holborn NCP is a multi-story car park and is located directly opposite the venue. It has 240 spaces, with 183cm clearance. Entrance and exit are on Museum Street, between High Holborn and West Central Street. There are three floors, all above ground. There is a lift (D90 W110 L140), and step free access to all floors via this lift. There are two BB spaces on the ground floor near the exit, but no discount for blue badge holders.

• Taxis

Licensed black cabs are readily available close to the venue and there is a fully licensed taxi service operating on behalf of AKA at the end of the night.

• Buses

Numerous buses and nightbuses pass very close to The End. Please see www.journeyplanner.org for further information and advice on planning your bus journey.

• Tubes

- Holborn station is on the Central and Piccadilly lines and is approximately 500 metres away
- Tottenham Court Road station is on the Central and Northern lines and is approximately 800 metres away
- Covent Garden and Russell Square stations are both approximately 1000 metres away

Accessible tube maps can be downloaded here: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/1108.aspx

3. Street lighting

The street lighting on approach to the building is good.

4. Internal lighting

AKA uses low-level lighting inside the venue. We do not use strobe lighting in AKA, but it is sometimes used in the main room downstairs in The End. Noise/music levels in AKA are high and the environment can be intense.

5. Accessing the venue

There is no alternative entrance for mobility impaired patrons. The main part of the venue is on the ground floor. Entrance is by 2 glass doors which can open inwards or outwards.

6. Cloakroom

The cloakroom is on the lower ground floor which is down 18 steps. However our reception staff will happily deposit your coats and bags in the cloakroom.

7. Inside the venue

The ground floor is fully wheelchair accessible. The mezzanine level is up a flight of 21 steps. The mezzanine is generally only open on Fridays and Saturdays.

8. Seating in the venue

There is plentiful seating in the ground floor and mezzanine areas. There are sofas and stools and low tables, all of which are moveable.

9. Guide Dogs

Due to the noisey and intense environment, guide dogs are not permitted.

10. Refreshments

The main bar in AKA is on the ground floor. This bar is open at all times. It is 112cm high.

A waitress service is available on Fridays and Saturdays. When no waitress service is available, staff are happy to assist with carrying drinks and food to your table.

AKA serves a selection of food from Pizza Express. This can be ordered at the bar or by the waitress and will be served at your table.

The bar in the Mezzanine level is only open when this level is open. This bar is 119 cm high.

Both bars are probably too high for wheelchair users, however our friendly staff will always assist with bar service.

11. Toilet facilities

A fully accessible unisex toilet is available on the ground floor. This toilet is fitted with the RADAR key system – if necessary a key can be obtained from any of our bar staff.

The toilet is fitted with grab bars, low level mirror, low level sink and high visibility flooring. It is also fitted with an emergency alarm.

Other standard Male and Female toilets are on the lower ground floor which is down 18 steps.

The male toilets have two average sized cubicles and urinals. The doors open inwards. The sink is 95 cm high.

Female toilets have 4 cubicles. The doors open inwards. The sink is 95 cm high.

12. Additional Information

On Saturdays and some Sundays, The End and AKA open as one venue. This allows people to move freely between both venues. Access to The End from AKA is down 18 steps to the toilet area and a further 3 steps from the toilet area to the door which enters into The End. Full details on access in The End is available www.endclub.com
